PEANUT BUTTER FUDGE FROSTING

1 cup sugar
1/3 cup milk
1/4 cup shortening
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup milk
1/4 cup shortening

Bring to full boil and cook as above. Remove from heat and add a large handful of mini marshmallows to the hot syrup. Stir until they are completely melted, then add a heaping Tablespoon of creamy peanut butter. Place pot in sink full of cold water and continue to stir beat until ready to spread on cooled cake.

Aunt Lena used the frosting recipe as the base for her famous chocolate and peanut butter fudge. She boiled the syrup for a minute and a half, to make sure it was firm enough to cut into squares when cool. Imagine the courage it takes to assume both batches of frosting/fudge will turn out right & delectable enough to layer one on top of the other for gifts. But Aunt Lena was a resolute woman and a precise cook.
