Alden Smith, Associate Professor of Classics at Baylor University, is a student of Latin poetry and Roman art and has written articles on both topics. His recent book, Poetic Allusion and Poetic Embrace in Ovid and Virgil (University of Michigan Press), considers not only the relationship of these two contemporary poets to each other, but also how their work fits into the poetic and artistic milieu of Augustan Rome.
