Height: 3" (7.5cm)
Material or Medium: Carved Bone
Date of Origin: c. 2nd Century, BCE -- Hellenistic Greece
Description: The face of Zeus has worn away, and his legs are broken off just above the knees. Otherwise, one can see careful carving of muscles and features on this depiction of the god standing with a cloak thrown over his left arm. Above that shoulder, a stylized eagle sits magisterially. The right arm and side of the figure are missing, as if broken off -- probably when this bone handle was broken off the knife.
